Finding the right space to lay down your tracks can completely change how your music sounds. That’s important because tracking a solo acoustic song needs a very different room than recording a full live band.
Columbus has a deep pool of creative spaces, but pinning down the recording studio in Columbus that fits your workflow and budget can take some digging.
So we spent time looking into local spots to make that search easier for you. We broke down everything from room acoustics to engineering experience, so you can focus on creating.
How much does it cost to record at a studio in Columbus?
Recording at a studio in Columbus typically costs $50 to $125 per hour, or roughly $350 to $1,000+ for a full day, depending on the room and whether an engineer is included.
| Session Type | Average Hourly Rate | Estimated Day Rate |
| Budget & community studios | $50 | $350 – $400 |
| Specialized downtown spaces | $89 – $125 | $700 – $1,000+ |
| Premium multi-room complexes | $100+ | $800+ |
1. Oranjudio Recording

Website: http://oranjudio.com/
Address: 1400 Holly Avenue
Contact: (614) 344-5110 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday to Sunday, 7:00 AM – 11:30 PM
Walking into a session where the room itself does the heavy lifting makes a big difference for any band. The standout feature here is the room acoustics, especially the 800-square-foot live room with tall ceilings that gives you a gorgeous natural reverb.
This turn-key setup goes beyond music tracking, handling ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement), voiceovers, podcasts, and full post-production mixing.
They have built a solid track record by handling sound work for major networks like Netflix and HBO. Plus, the space feels like a welcoming family environment instead of a cold corporate booking, which really helps artists open up during long sessions.
On the downside, they run only two main rooms. And because they juggle heavy corporate contracts alongside local music clients, booking windows can get tight.
Also, out-of-town artists will need to sort out their own lodging, since there is no overnight stay on-site.

Top notch studio space
We first came to record at Oranjudio after hearing several recommendations from other Columbus bands. To date, we have done 3 records at Oranjudio with Brandon. He is incredibly patient and creates a friendly easygoing atmosphere to work in. The studio space is top notch, always clean, and full of great gear to use. We always recommend this studio to any band looking to record.

2. Blue Moon Recording Studio

Website: http://www.bluemoonrecordingstudio.com/
Address: 3115 Bremen Street
Contact: (614) 268-4792 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday to Sunday, 12:00 PM – 11:00 PM
If you want a radio-ready sound without draining your bank account, Blue Moon Recording Studio is a real gem.
When a friend stopped by to check out the setup, what stood out was that the affordable hourly rate actually includes an experienced engineer to run your session.
They also support the local scene by letting you rent the acoustically treated space at a discount if you bring your own engineer.
The room has an intimate, relaxed feel that keeps you comfortable through long creative blocks. It’s a great spot to book right after finishing your singing lessons. They even use eco-friendly touches like energy-efficient lighting.
That said, the small footprint means the space isn’t built for big live ensembles or large choirs. On top of that, their mixing and mastering rates are not posted, so you’ll need to reach out for a custom quote.

3. Weird Music Studios

Website: http://weirdmusicstudios.com/
Address: 3970 S High Street
Contact: (614) 344-9440
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 12:00 PM – 11:30 PM; Friday, 2:00 PM – 11:30 PM; Saturday to Sunday, 12:00 PM – 2:00 AM
Working with a team that actually keeps up with the modern music industry can change how you feel about recording. The engineers at Weird Music Studios are active pros who know what it takes to navigate the creative process.
The crew includes founder Chris Salvato, who has run live sound for major acts, and Trevor Boggs, a Billboard-charting producer. Their main tracking room pairs classic analog gear with modern digital setups for a rich, character-filled vibe.
The hours run wide and stretch well into the night, which is great for late-night creative bursts, and the studio sits right on a major road for easy driving access.
But you can’t just drop by to see the layout, since tours are by appointment only and come with a consultation fee. Their large-format Midas console is also out for repair right now, which limits some premium analog mixing if you specifically need that board.

Address: 3471 Noe-Bixby Road
Contact: (614) 859-9136
Hours: Available 24/7
Artists who need a big physical footprint will find it inside the 2,500-square-foot facility at JSR Studios. A close friend of mine tracked an album here and raved about how they mix vintage analog warmth with modern digital systems.
They run a rare vintage Raindirk Symphony console alongside an Otari two-inch analog tape machine, which gives you an elite sonic foundation. The whole space is wired with premium cabling for maximum audio clarity.
Their team brings over three decades of experience working with major-label rock acts and commercial clients. So they can easily take you from initial tracking to final mastering under one roof.
Just keep in mind that the facility is rooted in Columbus, so out-of-town musicians have to factor in travel. Also, you’ll need to reach out directly for a personalized quote, since specialized rates are not posted upfront.

The best recording experience
The best recording experience I’ve ever had. Colin provides a very creative and open environment, with a modern, state of the art studio. Very professional, top of the line finished product. Always sounds incredible. I highly recommend this studio for all.

Relaxed vibe and high mix quality
I’ve done several projects at JSR with several different artists and my own band. The recording and mix quality is very high. The relaxed vibe of the studio is refreshing and conducive to creativity. For some of the artists I worked with this was their first time in a recording studio. The recording process was explained to them and they felt right at home very quickly.

5. Lundquist Audio Recording Studio and Live Sound

Website: http://www.lundquistaudio.com/
Address: 3699 Skipstone Place
Contact: (614) 769-4135 | [email protected]
Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Lundquist Audio sets itself apart with a strict clean-environment policy that bans drugs, alcohol, and explicit or vulgar lyrics.
The place runs as a cozy home studio, so you get a lot of personal attention from Chris Lundquist, a seasoned engineer with over 30 years in the business as a producer and touring musician.
They offer a nice spread of pro gear, including house instruments like a full drum kit and several guitars. It’s a great spot to record new tracks after wrapping up your piano lessons.
That said, the strict content rules mean artists with explicit language will have to look elsewhere. The home setting also means you will not get the large isolation booths you would find in bigger commercial spaces.

What a fun experience
My daughter had a 1 hour recording session with Chris as a Christmas gift. What a fun experience it was! Chris was really fun and easy to work with, and my daughter and her cousins had a great time! His fees are reasonable, and we look forward to future recordings with him. What a wonderful keepsake to have her singing recorded professionally.
