My friend thought that her little sis could be experiencing burnout. After some gentle discussion, her sister didn’t want to quit after all—she was just bored. Their solution? Enroll her in something creative too. And right now, she really loves her piano toy.

Piano lessons in Columbus typically cost between $38 and $80 per hour. However, the final cost depends on the location, the instructor’s experience, lesson length, and extra fees.

Musicologie is a modern, multi-location piano studio in Columbus that focuses on flexible lessons for both kids and adults.
Operating since 2014, they’re among the top-voted music instruction studios. An example is being among the “Best Music Schools in Ohio” by Columbus Parent Magazine for 5 consecutive years.
In addition, we find it incredible that their teachers have collectively taught over 100,000 lessons. In our book, this signals a sizeable, established, and reliable teaching base.
We also appreciate that they blend in-person and online lessons (via Zoom), proprietary programs, and a community-oriented studio feel to cater to different needs.
And conveniently, they run 5 Columbus-area spots for accessibility. This includes Grandview (their flagship), Westerville, Dublin, Gahanna, and Lewis Center.
As for the rates, they use a lesson membership model with a flat monthly fee. While exact totals vary, you can expect standard market rates of around $140 to $180 per month for weekly 30-minute sessions.
However, we heard from a client that some facilities can lack climate control. Their older building, like the Grandview flagship, can struggle to keep a consistent temperature during extreme Ohio winters or summers.

The Conservatory of Piano is a long-established, piano-only studio with two locations in the Columbus area. One is located in the New Albany Square shopping plaza, while the other is in Worthington.
They’ve been teaching since 1971, giving them over 54 years of experience in the Columbus area. Amazingly, they’ve taught over 10,000 students, which we believe makes them highly reputable.
The company provides private piano lessons for beginners and up. One is a sample course, involving 6-week starter courses for ages 3 to 6 (in-person) or adults (with an online option).
Another path we like is their custom 8-week classes in improvisation, composition, and college intensive prep. We reckon this is great for students who want focused blocks instead of long-term weekly sessions.
Unlike competitors that charge per lesson, their fee is a flat monthly rate of around $170. This applies to weekly 30-minute sessions with books and materials, making it quite competitive in Columbus.
However, someone we interviewed told us about their occasional sudden change in instructors. In our opinion, this can disrupt the learning flow for those who are already used to their teacher’s style.

Beyond Arts & Music is a small, community-focused music studio in Bexley that mixes group classes with private lessons. The latter is accessible to babies and adults too.
Compared with other large chain-style companies, we love that this studio leans into Kindermusik-style. This basically means play-based, early childhood music and a warm neighborhood feel.
Additionally, we’re all for their community-style events and classes that build fun and closeness within groups. They even integrate yoga, breathing, and mindfulness into their sessions for a holistic approach.
They also use monthly installments that cover 45 learning experiences throughout the year. Per month, this costs $89 for Kindermusik and $150 for private or group piano sessions. Just note that there are separate fees for new students and materials.
However, they don’t offer free trial lessons. Instead, they provide a paid one-month trial that you can opt out of without any further penalty. Otherwise, a six-month commitment is required.

Do Re Mi Music is a small, one-room, and independent piano studio, unlike other big chains or team-based schools.
The studio is run by a single instructor named Kurt Troops. He’s been teaching in Columbus for more than 2 decades. He also holds a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Arts from The Ohio State University, with a background deeply rooted in music theory and pedagogy.
Kurt even markets his lessons from a developmental perspective, rather than technical skills. This means he pays attention to how each student thinks and learns (like ear training, sight reading, and theory), not just what they can play.
And because there’s only one teacher, we believe that the lessons are highly tailored. It’s helpful for us that there’s no rotating through different instructors, which can only be distracting.
We’re stoked that his rates are generally more affordable than those of other commercial studios as well. They fall around $120 to $140 per month.
The only thing we think can hold some students back is the residential studio. We understand that some families still prefer the professional vibe of a storefront over a cozy home setting.

This setup is built around Christine Taylor, M.M., a teacher who is uniquely dual-certified. She’s a highly trained flutist but also a certified piano instructor through the Royal Conservatory of Music.
With her lens of music, psychology, and emotional well-being, she offers a clear structure. It is not a rigid, exam-only style.
And if you just want to enjoy the experience, we bet you’ll like that she prioritizes the student’s emotional relationship with music. This way, we believe burnout can be prevented, and long-term interest can be fostered.
As an independent, master-level instructor, Christine’s rates reflect her high level of education. Still, we appreciate that they remain competitive with local music centers, costing around $150 to $170 per month.
Just one thing, though—we think Christine’s focus on psychology and well-being might feel too soft for parents seeking a traditional or strictly disciplined setting. Smaller studios like hers offer fewer recital opportunities too.
