The 5 Best Dermatologists in Columbus for Your Skin

dermatologists-in-columbus
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Service Range: We looked for practices that offer a wide spectrum of care, from medical treatments to cosmetic procedures. This helps readers address different skin needs without jumping between too many offices.

Provider Expertise: Board-certified dermatologists and experienced clinical teams carried a lot of weight in this review. We prioritized providers who can diagnose complex skin concerns and explain treatment plans clearly.

Patient Experience: A supportive environment matters when you are dealing with persistent skin issues, cosmetic questions, or anxiety about screenings. We paid attention to how each clinic balances patient education with practical, respectful care.

Accessibility and Scheduling: Getting an appointment should not add to your stress. We considered location convenience, telehealth availability, office communication, and whether wait times seemed manageable.

Taking care of your skin can feel overwhelming, especially when you are juggling persistent flare-ups, changing moles, or cosmetic questions.

Whether you need a routine cancer screening or want to ask about botox, finding the best dermatologist in Columbus can make the whole process feel less intimidating.

Columbus also has plenty of medical professionals and aesthetic clinics, but not every office fits the same needs. I looked at local practices that offer medical care, surgical support, and cosmetic services without making patients feel rushed.

How much does a dermatologist visit cost in Columbus?

In Columbus, an initial dermatology consultation typically ranges from $150 to over $250 without insurance, while telehealth and insured visits can offer more affordable options.

Visit TypeEstimated Cost
Initial Consultation (No Insurance)$150 – $250+
Copay (With Insurance)$25 – $60
Telehealth (Uninsured)$49 – $135

Website: https://dermgc.com/locations/columbus

Address: 100 W 3rd Ave, Suite 250

Contact: (614) 268-2748

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM; Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM

Dermatologists of Greater Columbus is a practical pick if you want medical and cosmetic dermatology in one Victorian Village office. The clinic treats concerns like acne, eczema, psoriasis, and skin cancer.

What’s really reassuring is that every provider on staff is board-certified, so you know you’re in good hands.

We also like that the care feels broad enough for families, especially if one person needs a mole check while another wants to ask about laser treatment.

A colleague who went in for a stubborn eczema flare said the staff explained prevention clearly.

However, direct time with the doctor can feel brief, and waits may stretch past the scheduled slot. Costs can also climb if a medication or treatment is not covered by insurance.

Pros

  • Comprehensive treatments for diverse skin conditions
  • Board-certified dermatology specialists
  • Modern equipment and laser options
  • Convenient Victorian Village location

Cons

  • High out-of-pocket consultation fees
  • Prolonged appointment wait times

Highly recommend Dr. Mary Jo Kendrick

I found by chance a few years ago an awesome Dermatologist.  She helped me to understand the symptoms were not serious. I have been with her ever since.

I had an appointment yesterday with concerns

about lumps on my leg. Also a spot above my eyebrow.  That was a pretty cancerous spot she froze that.

She is very personable and cares about her

Patients… Highly recommend Dr. Mary Jo Kendrick you wont be disappointed….

I am very pleased

Dr. Kendrick was wonderful! Her approach was much different from any other dermatologist I have visited, where it seems that they are in and out in under five minutes. She discussed details of my dermatological conditions thoroughly, giving me options that I had never heard about! I am very pleased with this interaction.

2. Downtown Dermatology

downtown-dermatology

Website: https://columbusdowntownderm.com/

Address: 500 East Main Street, Suite 310

Contact: (614) 224-4566

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Downtown Dermatology is a strong fit if you want one office that handles both medical skin concerns and aesthetic goals. The Main Street location makes it convenient for people who work or live near the center of the city.

The care model feels personal, with board-certified dermatologists creating plans around skin type instead of pushing a generic routine.

We also like that patients can access options such as chemical peels and laser therapies when cosmetic care is part of the conversation.

However, non-urgent appointments may require weeks or even months of planning, which can be frustrating if your issue is uncomfortable but not considered urgent. Phone communication for refills or basic questions can also be slower than expected.

Pros

  • Full spectrum of medical and aesthetic care
  • Board-certified professional staff
  • Advanced diagnostic and treatment technology
  • Central downtown accessibility

Cons

  • Significant scheduling delays for non-urgent visits
  • Slow responses to patient phone calls

She made my scars beautiful

As an African American woman, who has an extensive history with keloiding, I am so happy and at ease with Dr. Hicks-Graham as well as her team at Downtown Dermatologist! World Class  knowledge & Renowned service should be mentioned in the same sentence as Dr. Hicks-Graham. She made my scars beautiful. 🙏🏾

I love the overall quality of service

There is something about Dr. Hicks-Grahm that I really like. Maybe it’s her presence that does it. I had a good feeling about her when she entered the room and gave me a bright warm smile. I really do appreciate Doctors that are not in a rush and takes time to listen to their patients. Dr. Hicks-Graham is also one of them. I highly recommend her to anyone in need of a wonderful dermatologist ❤️  I want to add that her staff are very kind people.  I love the overall quality of service there! 😍

3. Rixis Dermatology

rixis-dermatology

Website: https://www.rixisdermatology.com/

Address: 4300 Clime Rd, Suite 100

Contact: (614) 887-7723

Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM; Tuesday, Closed (Calls Only); Thursday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Rixis Dermatology works best for patients who want a medically focused practice with surgical support. Their team leans into issues like psoriasis, skin cancer, and other conditions that need careful diagnosis rather than quick cosmetic upsells.

We appreciate that they keep clear ethical boundaries around cosmetic work. They offer safe, on-label options such as dermal fillers and mild chemical peels, but they refer out when a procedure falls beyond their scope.

The flexibility is helpful too, especially with telehealth options and a schedule that gives patients a few weekday choices.

Still, you should ask detailed questions before minor procedures. A few patients have reported scarring after treatments like electrodesiccation, so expectations and aftercare should be very clear.

Pros

  • Strong focus on surgical and medical treatments
  • Ethical approach to safe cosmetic procedures
  • Board-certified clinical providers
  • Flexible scheduling with telehealth options

Cons

  • Occasional unexpected scarring from minor procedures
  • Limited scope for complex aesthetic treatments

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience

I had my very first dermatology appointment with Dr. Fabbro, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. She and her entire team were warm, welcoming, and genuinely personable. Dr. Fabbro was exceptionally thorough in her evaluation, taking the time to truly listen to my concerns and explain everything in a clear, easy-to-understand way while being very thorough in her approach and review of any moles, blemishes, skin (whatever the annual skin review is called). I’m so grateful to have found her and would highly recommend her to anyone seeking a skilled and personable dermatologist!

A skilled and caring dermatologist

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Stephanie Fabbro. Her expertise in dermatology is remarkable. She follows up after appointments, demonstrating her commitment to give the best care. If you’re looking for a skilled and caring dermatologist, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Stephanie Fabbro.  4. Forefront Dermatology Columbus, Ohio

forefront-dermatology-columbus-ohio

Website: https://forefrontdermatology.com/

Address: 1830 Bethel Road, Suite C

Contact: (614) 754-8781

Hours: Monday, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM; Tuesday-Thursday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM; Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Forefront Dermatology’s Bethel Road office is useful if you want the backing of a larger dermatology network with local access. The clinic covers medical and cosmetic needs, from eczema and mole checks to minimally invasive aesthetic procedures.

I accompanied a friend here for a mole check, and the clinical team knew exactly what they were doing. The appointment itself felt a little rushed, though.

A small benign cyst required a separate follow-up visit instead of being handled during the same appointment. That extra step may not bother everyone, but it matters if you are taking time off work or coordinating family schedules.

Front desk communication can also be inconsistent, especially around therapies or location details.

Still, the medical side feels capable and current.

Pros

  • Wide range of clinical and cosmetic services
  • Backing of a trusted national network
  • Board-certified medical professionals
  • Modern minimally invasive procedural options

Cons

  • Inconsistent front desk communication
  • Short consultation times requiring multiple visits

They truly cared for the issues I sought help for

I highly recommend Forefront Dermatology! Their staff are friendly and truly cared for the issues I sought help for. I’ve seen numerous dermatologists, but Forefront stands out because of their patience and willingness to educate me along the way. If you’re looking for a new dermatologist, look no further!

I was listened to

I had a quick response at the reception desk, and the waiting time was short, about 20 minutes. My history was taken, then the dermatologist came in along with the nurse. The dermatologist examined me and addressed my complaints. I was listened to.

5. Ohio State Dermatology West

ohio-state-dermatology-west

Website: https://wexnermedical.osu.edu/

Address: 1328 Dublin Road, Suite 100

Contact: (614) 293-1707

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Ohio State Dermatology West is a reassuring choice if you want care connected to Ohio State University (OSU) Wexner Medical Center.

The Dublin Road clinic benefits from academic-affiliated specialists who work with medical, surgical, and complex dermatology cases.

We find this option suitable for people dealing with stubborn or unusual skin concerns because the larger health system makes specialist referrals much easier.

The team can also lean on evidence-based protocols and advanced diagnostics when a case needs deeper investigation.

The tradeoff is that the process can feel strict. Arriving even a few minutes late may mean rescheduling, and insurance verification can take extra follow-up calls.

It is not the most relaxed administrative experience, but the clinical depth is a major strength.

Pros

  • Faculty-level academic expertise and research
  • Evidence-based treatment protocols
  • Seamless specialist referrals within the health system
  • Advanced medical diagnostic technology

Cons

  • Strict late arrival cancellation policies
  • Confusing insurance verification and billing processes

Customer Reviews

A wonderful dermatologist

Dr Ben Kaffenberger is a wonderful dermatologist! He provides great care and explains all treatment options. In a healthcare environment where taking time to listen to patients is rare and almost obsolete, at each appointment, I am reminded why I drive 2 hours to be a patient under his care.

An excellent dermatologist

I am a long time patient of Dr. Bechtal and could not be happier with his care.  I also have been dealing with nurse Clarissa at the West office for the past 5 years. She is very professional, accessible, and always pleasant.  Dr. Dunaway at the West office is also compassionate, always on time, and an excellent dermatologist.  Being a physician myself, my standards are high, and would highly recommend OSU dermatology!
