The 5 Best Upholstery Shops in Columbus to Give Your Furniture a Second Life

upholstery-shops-in-columbus
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Quality of Craftsmanship: We looked closely at the precision of the stitching and the overall durability of the finished pieces. A great shop should turn out work that looks beautiful but also stands up to daily wear and tear.

Range of Materials: The variety of fabrics, leathers, and vinyls available is a big factor for anyone wanting a custom look. We prioritized shops that offer a broad selection of textures and patterns to suit different styles.

Communication and Service: How a business handles consultations and updates matters just as much as the physical work. We favored companies that are upfront about timelines and easy to talk to throughout the process.

Specialized Expertise: Some projects need more than a staple gun, like marine work or antique restoration. We highlighted shops that bring unique skills to the table, such as work on boats, classic cars, or commercial setups.

We have all looked at a worn-out sofa or an antique chair that has lost its shape and wondered if it is still worth saving.

The good news is that the right upholstery shop can transform a tired piece, or even a thrift store find, into something that looks completely high-end again.

That’s where the best upholstery services in Columbus come in, whether you’re restoring a family heirloom or updating a lobby.

It’s a lot like working with great tailors or skilled goldsmiths. You need someone with a sharp eye for detail who treats your pieces with real care.

We rounded up the local craftspeople in Columbus who consistently deliver exactly that level of work.

Address: 3824 April Lane

Contact: 614-420-2269

Hours: Tuesday-Friday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Old Town Upholstery is a great pick if you want someone to handle your project from the first sketch to the final delivery. They offer a full-service approach that includes design recommendations, which is very helpful if you feel overwhelmed by fabric swatches.

Their portfolio is packed with high-quality residential and commercial work, and they clearly have a knack for complex pieces like deep-seated sofas and hospitality furniture.

We really like how customer-centric they are, leaning into local Columbus style and durable, practical results.

That said, they can be a bit rigid about their shop policies. If you insist on a specific repair method that goes against their professional advice, they might push back or even turn down the job to protect the quality of their work.

It helps to be open to their recommendations.

Pros

  • Full-service project management
  • Strong commercial experience
  • High-quality material focus
  • Detailed project portfolio

Cons

  • Strict adherence to shop methods

An attention to detail

Matt and Natasha did an exquisite job reupholstering our four Stickley kitchen chairs, whose original upholstery was “genuine” leather. We now have real leather, which feels and looks great. Old Town Upholstery was speedy, and with an attention to detail that has us feeling so lucky to have discovered them. I would strongly recommend working with them! Thank you so much, Matt and Natasha. Your craftsmanship is impeccable!

We love our custom window seat cushion from Old Town Upholstery! It’s super high-quality, from the fabric choice to the firmness of the cushion to the neatness of the stitching. The work was done quickly by expertly, and Matt and Case were very responsive to all questions and concerns. This is a great small business that you can feel good about working with. I’d give six stars if I could!

Areas Served: Columbus, Ohio

Contact: [email protected]

Hours: By appointment

Erika DeMaria, the founder of SWATCH Upholstery, brings a boutique, artistic energy to every project. She’s focused on giving forgotten pieces a brand-new life through sustainable practices.

If you have an heirloom that feels a bit dated, she is the one to help you reimagine it with her original abstract fabric designs and unique wall panels.

A lot of her past clients that we spoke with actually shared that her passion for furniture design is very infectious.

The work here is very hands-on and collaborative, which makes it a dream if you want a one-of-a-kind statement piece.

But because it is a founder-driven, smaller operation, it might not be the best fit if you need 50 office chairs by next week.

You are also looking at longer turnaround times because of the custom nature of her work, so a little patience goes a long way for results like these.

Pros

  • Highly personalized design
  • Original boutique fabrics
  • Sustainable restoration focus
  • Expert heirloom revitalization

Cons

  • Not ideal for bulk or large orders
  • Longer turnaround times

3. Buckeye Unlimited Upholstery LLC

buckeye-unlimited-upholstery-llc

Website: https://buckeyeunlimitedllc.com/

Address: 5424 Byers Circle W

Contact: 614-846-5811

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (estimates, drop-off, and pickups only)

If your project has wheels or floats, this is the place to go. Buckeye Unlimited is incredibly versatile, handling everything from standard living room furniture to full marine restoration for boats and factory-original interiors for classic cars.

It’s not easy to find a shop that can jump from a Queen Anne couch to a motorcycle seat without skipping a beat. They even offer discounts for first responders and The Ohio State University (OSU) staff.

Another thing we appreciate is the huge range of materials they stock, so you won’t be hunting for fabric elsewhere.

On the downside, some customers feel the labor cost for very small, simple sewing jobs runs a bit steep.

There have also been a few reports of minor oversights, like loose bolts after an auto job, so it is smart to do a quick walk-through when you pick up your items.

Pros

  • Specialist in boat and auto work
  • Free estimates and discounts
  • Massive material selection
  • Convenient Saturday morning hours

Cons

  • High minimum labor for small jobs
  • Occasional minor finishing errors

Website: https://upheldcustom.com/

Address: 7465 Worthington Galena Rd. Suite B

Contact: 614-771-9900

Hours: Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM; Saturday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (appointment required)

One of our researchers recently took a vintage armchair to Upheld by Fabric Farms, and the level of craftsmanship was honestly stunning.

They don’t cut corners on the internal foam or the structural integrity of a piece, and they are excellent problem-solvers. So if you have a chair with an odd frame or a big commercial project, they have the scale and the smarts to handle it.

Since they’re based in nearby Worthington, they have a great pulse on the local market and offer a curated boutique fabric selection that feels very high-end.

Just keep in mind that you will likely need to put down a substantial deposit before the work begins.

Also, because they sometimes outsource specific elements like custom curtains, there can be the occasional delay in communication while they coordinate with outside partners.

Pros

  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Scalable for large projects
  • Expert at complex transformations
  • Premium boutique fabric options

Cons

  • Substantial upfront deposits
  • Communication delays on outsourced items

With over 20 years of experience, Upholstery Flair is a staple for local businesses, especially restaurants and hotels. They specialize in high-traffic seating, so they know exactly which vinyls and leathers will hold up to a Friday night rush.

They’re also very upfront about pricing, offering affordable estimates so you aren’t hit with sticker shock when the bill arrives.

We also value that they happily take on projects of any size, ranging from a single kitchen chair to a whole fleet of restaurant booths.

However, the customer experience can be a bit hit or miss depending on who you talk to that day. Some people have run into communication hurdles or felt the staff was a little short with them, so it is best to go in with a clear plan of what you want.

Really pleasant to work with

I am so pleased with the quality of work Bridgette has done on my broken down dinning room chair seats. I can now eat without my chin hitting the table. The finished work is truely professional, I am so pleased and they look great. Bridgette also replaced foam and batting in a cushion that makes my Wing back chair feel and look like new. The turn around time was much sooner than I expected and Bridgette was really pleasant to work with. I highly recommend her and her work.
