We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Authenticity and Variety: I checked the menus to see whether they offered authentic Cantonese small plates and handmade dumplings. It was important that there were plenty of choices, both savory and sweet.

Food Quality: I looked at how fresh the ingredients were and how well the food was steamed. Places with soft wrappers and well-seasoned fillings ranked higher.

Atmosphere: I focused on restaurants with a lively dining room, a traditional tea service, and ample space for large groups. A fun weekend vibe was a big plus.

Value: I compared dish prices with portion sizes to see if they felt fair. This helped me find spots that give a good experience without costing too much.

There’s nothing quite like starting the weekend with a table full of steaming dumplings, fluffy barbecue pork buns, and shared plates passed around with family or friends.

While Columbus has a growing reputation for diverse dining, including some excellent spots for tapas, there’s a special kind of comfort found in a traditional dim sum experience.

Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or a long, laid-back brunch, finding a place that masters these classic Chinese flavors makes all the difference.

I’ve scouted the city to find the top spots for your next dim sum outing. Keep reading to discover my favorite places to gather for a meal in Columbus.

Nothing beats finding a place that feels like a real Hong Kong teahouse, and Dim Sum Asian Bistro comes pretty close.

One of the highlights is the shrimp dumplings, which are served hot and fresh with delicate, handmade-style wrappers. On top of that, the barbecue pork buns are soft, fluffy, and filled with flavorful pork.

Another thing I liked was that the kitchen makes its dumplings and buns from scratch using generational recipes, which really shows in every bite.

The traditional cooking methods give the food an authentic taste, and the spacious dining room makes it easy to enjoy a meal with family or friends. They even offer group menus for different budgets.

The only downside is that the menu offers only a few savory vegetarian dim sum options.

Pros

  • Dishes crafted entirely from scratch
  • Traditional Hong Kong culinary techniques
  • Tailored group menus for budgets
  • Time-honored generational recipes

Cons

  • Few savory vegetarian options

Delicious and high quality

The food was great—every dim sum dish we tried was delicious and high quality.

What made the meal perfect was the excellent experience. The atmosphere was wonderful and felt very welcoming, and the service was fantastic. Our server was quick, polite, and attentive.

Highly recommend for a top-notch dim sum meal!

This place is amazing

Amazing dim sum.  Most tender chicken feet I’ve ever tasted.  Delicious steamed bean curd roll.  Richly flavored roast duck.  The staff is friendly and the older gentleman waiter is talkative about where he’s from and making you feel welcome, I loved it!  The fried shrimp balls were a little softer than I prefer, I like firm insides, but that is personal preference.  This place is amazing, give it a try!!

2. Ty Ginger Asian Bistro

A trip to Dublin is worth it if you’re craving classic Chinese comfort food with well-made dim sum. What impressed me most was the care that goes into every dish at Ty Ginger.

Their culinary consultant has more than 55 years of experience, and you can taste that skill in the delicate chive dumplings and perfectly seasoned pork siu mai.

The restaurant even has a separate kitchen department focused on steamed small plates, so everything comes out fresh and well prepared.

Plus, the different kitchen teams work closely together, which helps service stay organized even during busy hours.

One thing to remember is that some of the most popular dim sum dishes are only available on weekends, so it’s best to plan your visit.

Pros

  •
  • Menu items handcrafted from scratch
  • Dedicated steamed plate department
  • Structured communication between kitchen departments

Cons

  • Certain items restricted to weekends

The dim sum by far is the most authentic in town

As a person who is picky about Chinese food I can honestly say that this place is one of the best in Columbus for Chinese food. The dim sum by far is the most authentic in town. I went with some friends on a weekday right when they opened and they had plenty of seating. Was told that Sunday is their busiest day so if you decide to go on a Sunday be aware of this little tidbit. Cannot recommend it enough!

Had a great experience of dim sum

Went here yesterday. Mom and son time and had a great experience of dim sum. Had many dishes. All were good. Came out hot and fresh. Service was great. Came back many times to check up on us. Will be coming back here!

3. CoCo Cuisine

Hours: Monday to Sunday: 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Sometimes it’s hard to find a place that serves both great dim sum and flavorful hot pot, but CoCo Cuisine does both really well.

Another reason it stands out is the interactive hot pot experience, where guests can cook fresh ingredients in rich broths and choose a spice level that suits their taste.

Besides that, the kitchen serves traditional Cantonese dim sum made with fresh ingredients, celebrating Southern Chinese cooking.

Also, the modern dining room has a lively feel, so it’s a nice spot for catching up with friends or family.

The only drawback is that most dim sum dishes are only available in medium or large portions, with just a few offered in small sizes.

Pros

  • Bite-sized traditional Cantonese delicacies
  • Interactive customizable Szechuan hot pot
  • Variety of accommodating spice levels
  • Fresh ingredients honoring Southern cooking

Cons

  • Most dim sum items restricted to larger sizes

Authentic dim sum, Chinese food

CoCo Cuisine is the real deal! I honestly didn’t know what to expect since that physical location has in the past been a revolving door of failed restaurants, but I was more than pleasantly surprised, I was thrilled at now finding this gem of a restaurant! Authentic Chinese dishes and dim sum offerings! The staff are friendly and attentive and the food comes out pretty quickly as well. This is a must go-to place if you love real asian cuisine.

Some of the best dim sum in Columbus

The dim sum was probably some of the best in Columbus! Great service. It is a little pricier for dim sum, but it was great and fresh. Clean environment and because it’s an addition to Coco hot pot, you can also choose that as an option too. They have some different Chinese entrees with big portions. The Beef chow fun was amazing!!!

4. Chuan Jiang Hao Zi

Address: 496 Ackerman Road

Contact: 614-372-5520

Hours: Daily: 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Looking for bold flavors with a long history? Chuan Jiang Hao Zi is well worth adding to your list. The restaurant specializes in authentic Sichuan cooking, with recipes inspired by traditions dating back to the 1980s.

From what I’ve noticed, each savory dish has a good mix of spices that brings out the flavor without being too strong.

The team’s experience really shows. They have sold more than 100,000 dumplings, and you can taste their skill in every bite.

On top of that, the lively dining room feels a lot like eating in China, making every visit more enjoyable.

However, if you usually finish dim sum with dessert, you may find the selection of sweet items a little limited.

Pros

  • Traditional cuisine with balanced specialized spices
  • Rich history from 1980s establishment
  • Lively authentic Chinese dining atmosphere
  • Expertise from selling over 100,000 dumplings

Cons

  • Limited sweet dim sum items

Tasty and delicious dim sum

This unassuming restaurant specializing in Sichuan Province cuisine is a true find. Unlike the hundreds of other Chinese restaurants that serve timid “Americanized” food, this place is authentic. The flavors are bold like a punch to the face… in a good way. They also have a small offering of dim sum that was tasty and delicious. I will be coming back here again many times so I can eat my way through their menu. I do recommend this place for small to large groups. They have large circular tables that seat 6-9 people and booths for smaller groups (2-4).

Fantastic dim sum

This is the Chinese Restaurant that Columbus deserves!! It is hands-down the best authentic Chinese dining experience in all of Columbus and Central Ohio.

Service is top-notch and enjoyable.

As far as the food, you cant go wrong with anything. The Salt and pepper shrimp is incredible. The Eggplant dishes are also on-point. We tried a few dim sum dishes and all were fantastic (Shumai, steamed and fried dumplings, scallion pancakes etc.)

5. Helen’s Asian Kitchen

Website: https://helensasian.com/

Address: 1070 E Dublin Granville Rd.

Contact: 614-987-5121

Hours: Tuesday to Sunday: 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM

Getting everyone together for a big meal is much easier when the restaurant feels warm and welcoming, and that’s exactly what I found here.

Helen’s Asian Kitchen serves a wide variety of carefully prepared Asian dishes, so there’s something for almost everyone at the table.

Besides that, the kitchen puts real care into every specialty item, and you can taste the attention they give to each plate.

I was happy to see they even work to improve digital accessibility for people with disabilities, which shows they want more customers to feel included.

Also, if you’re comparing catering services in Columbus for a family celebration, they’re a solid option for feeding a crowd.

The only drawback is that orders may be canceled if certain ingredients aren’t available.

Pros

  • Wide range of distinct Asian flavors
  • Specialty products prepared with significant care
  • Optimized digital accessibility for disabled users
  • Transparent operational policies for customer safety

Cons

  • Policy allows sudden order cancellations

The most delicious food

Absolutely top notch Chinese food! Cute decor for dine-in, and super efficient takeout order system (we’ve tried both). While the traditional Chinese-American menu is EXCELLENT, don’t sleep on their Dim Sum menu! The pork siu mai and soup dumplings are delectable, and the shrimp rice noodle rolls are oh-so-good! We will keep coming back to Helen’s as long as there is a Helen’s to come back to. Always the kindest, warmest service and the most delicious food.

Everything was incredible

Went for a date night to try the dim sum. Had the soup dumplings, sesame balls, spring rolls, and spicy dumplings. Everything was incredible and I would highly recommend them all! The service was extremely attentive and fast. Can’t wait to go back in the future.
