We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Industry Certifications: We prioritized companies that employ International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certified professionals. This ensures the team has the formal training necessary to execute dangerous jobs safely.

Service Versatility: A good provider should handle both routine landscape maintenance and sudden emergency removals. We looked for businesses offering a wide spectrum of capabilities to suit different property needs.

Customer Responsiveness: Timely communication is vital when dealing with active storm damage or precarious branches. We evaluated how quickly and efficiently these companies respond to urgent client inquiries.

Safety and Cleanup: Leaving a yard hazard-free after heavy cutting is a non-negotiable standard. We checked that the crews consistently remove loose debris and protect surrounding structures during their operations.

Pricing Transparency: Clear estimates prevent unexpected financial burdens for homeowners and property managers. We favored contractors who offer free quotes and straightforward billing structures.

Whether you’re prepping for a major renovation or you’re clearing a lot before a home inspection, maintaining the trees on your property is a serious undertaking that requires skill and strict safety protocols.

That’s why choosing the best tree service in Columbus matters so much for your peace of mind and long-term landscape health.

I looked closely at the top local providers to help you make an informed decision for your next outdoor project.

Hours: Available 24/7

Tackling a massive, dying oak hovering over your roof requires serious professional intervention. That’s where the ISA-certified arborists at Scotts Tree Experts truly shine, particularly when it comes to complex and hazardous removals.

I spoke with a property manager who recently used their crew for an emergency clearance, and they highlighted the team’s meticulous cleanup process. Leaving the yard spotless after such heavy work is a huge relief for any homeowner.

They also handle routine trimming and lot clearing, making them a highly capable all-in-one provider.

Plus, their round-the-clock availability ensures that urgent storm damage gets addressed immediately.

However, it’s important to communicate site constraints very clearly before the heavy machinery arrives.

There have been instances where underground structures suffered minor impacts because specific ground boundaries weren’t fully observed by the operators.

Pros

  • Employs ISA-certified professionals
  • Specializes in hazardous tree removals
  • Provides 24/7 emergency response
  • Offers comprehensive land clearing
  • Includes thorough post-job cleanup

Cons

  • Potential risk to underground site features

Clean up was quick and efficient

We were very pleased with Scott’s Tree Experts today. We reached out to them to do a very large tree removal and their customer service was very good.  Response was quick and professional.  The crew took extreme care in not hurting any flowers I had planted next to the tree and clean up was quick and efficient.

Would highly recommend for any tree removal.

Waking up to a fallen branch blocking your driveway is a stressful situation that demands immediate action. Basic Tree Care steps in with their reliable 24-hour emergency availability, ensuring you’re never left stranded after a bad storm.

The team covers everything from basic pruning to extensive storm cleanup. And in case of fallen trees, they process branches and grind stumps directly on-site, which significantly cuts down on expensive hauling fees.

I like that they emphasize a preventative approach to keep your landscape healthy long-term.

Their highly competitive pricing model, which aims to meet or beat local competitors, is also a plus, making their services accessible to budget-conscious property owners.

While their rates are generally fantastic, you should be prepared for their specific billing policies. Paying with a credit card incurs an additional convenience fee, which might catch you off guard if you’re covering a large emergency removal bill.

Pros

  • Round-the-clock emergency support
  • Highly competitive pricing model
  • Processes waste debris on-site
  • Offers free project estimates
  • Fully insured for client protection

Cons

  • Applies a surcharge for credit card payments

The tree looks great

The tree looks great and I appreciate that they gave us three tiers of quotes. We had an immediate issue where part of our tree was resting on the power lines to our house but we ended up having the entire tree trimmed (wow was it needed). Office staff is very responsive and the crew cleaned up and moved everything back when they were finished. Highly recommend!

Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30 AM–5 PM

Columbus Tree Care operates with a strict “tree-first” philosophy. The company is led by highly credentialed ISA-certified arborists who prioritize preservation and advanced structural cabling.

Their leadership holds rigorous safety certifications, bringing an elevated level of technical expertise to every consultation.

When I had them evaluate a leaning maple on my property, the arborist provided a deeply knowledgeable assessment rather than pushing for an immediate cut.

They also offer customized treatment plans and pest control, a level of specialized insight that’s invaluable for maintaining mature landscapes.

Because they focus so heavily on thorough, on-site evaluations, though, their scheduling can sometimes run behind. You might experience delays waiting for an estimator to arrive during their busy seasonal rushes.

  • Led by heavily credentialed arborists
  • Prioritizes tree preservation
  • Offers advanced cabling and bracing
  • Provides customized pest treatments
  • Handles municipal and commercial jobs

Cons

  • Potential delays for on-site estimates

Recommending them to anyone who needs tree care

Justin and his crew made quick work trimming the mighty Pin Oak in the front yard my home on the National Historic Registry in Clintonville.  Columbus Tree Care have all top notch equipment only the real pros have.  They charged a very, very fair price, showed up exactly when planned, were knowledgeable and spoke the kind truth about the challenges the tree has and how to mitigate them. I couldn’t find a single twig left behind after they were done, will be recommending them to anyone who needs tree care, and won’t hesitate to call them in the future.  Well done!

I also found their price to be reasonable compared to other companies of their experience and caliber.

4. Ohio Tree Care

Hours: Monday – Friday 7 AM–3 PM

Maintaining the ecological balance of your yard requires a thoughtful approach to trimming and maintenance. Ohio Tree Care differentiates itself by focusing heavily on long-term plant health and tree preservation rather than immediate removal.

With over 25 years in the local market, their experienced crews bring a wealth of practical knowledge to every residential project.

They handle everything from precise pruning to insect control, ensuring your foliage remains robust year-round.

A major highlight is their strict policy of including full debris cleanup in their standard pricing, so your yard looks immaculate once the job is done. They even offer expert replanting support if an old stump needs grinding.

Since they prefer handling specific issues as they arise, some customers find themselves scheduling multiple visits for different services.

This piecemeal approach might require a bit more coordination if you need extensive landscaping work done all at once.

Pros

  • Focuses strongly on plant health
  • Brings decades of industry experience
  • Includes full cleanup in base pricing
  • Offers expert replanting guidance

Cons

  • Requires multiple visits for complex issues

The removal was safe and precise

Professional, polite, and prompt.

The service was reasonably and competitively priced. The scheduling was adaptive to my needs and concerns of the safety of a large dying tree over my neighbors property from my property. One more gust of wind, kind of situation. The removal was safe and precise. The cleanup was well done.

They also cut a few other dead trees

Flavio and Leonard were amazing! We had a dead 55-60 foot walnut tree which, had it fallen on its own would have wiped out at least a fence, and either our or or neighbor’s houses. The way they engineered the partial cutting in stages so that the big pieces would swing away from anything that could be damaged was impressive! They also cut a few other dead trees, cut them into manageable pieces, and placed them into a pile before tidying up. Based on our experience, we would definitely recommend them for your own needs!

Their certified operators handle an impressive variety of tasks, from tricky transplanting to installing structural bracing for weakening trunks.

They provide a single contact for both urgent hazards and routine insect management, which greatly simplifies property maintenance.

Cons

Removed a giant Maple tree

I would absolutely recommend hiring Penningtons Tree Service. They removed a giant Maple tree from the front of my yard and ground out the stump. Part of the tree extended over my roof and part extended over my neighbor’s property where they park their cars. They were professional, there was no damage to property, and they cleaned up all the debris afterward. They were also very nice people in general and were flexible on the price to meet me where I’m at, so to speak. I am very happy with their service and with the results.

Professional team.

Excellent service from Pennington Tree Service from our initial contact to completing the tree removal from our front yard. Michael was available on a Saturday afternoon to give us an in-person quote that was extremely reasonable.  Booked the job right there and the crew arrived a day early per our approval. They removed a 50 ft Bradford pear in a few hours and ground down the stump. Honestly, there was not one twig or branch left in the yard- just a bit of sawdust and chips. We could not have hired a more professional team. Thank you Michael and crew!
