5 Best Pharmacies in Columbus for Reliable Prescriptions and Everyday Health Needs

pharmacies-in-columbus
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Locations and accessibility: I focused on pharmacies across Columbus that are easy to access, whether you are downtown or in surrounding neighborhoods. Convenience matters, especially for urgent prescriptions.

Availability of medications: I prioritized pharmacies known for keeping a wide range of medications in stock, helping minimize delays and unnecessary repeat visits.

Customer service and pharmacist support: Friendly, knowledgeable pharmacists can make a big difference. So, I selected locations where staff are helpful and willing to answer questions clearly.

Additional services: I looked for pharmacies that offer extras like vaccinations, health screenings, and delivery services.

Pricing and insurance compatibility: I chose places with transparent pricing, acceptance of major insurance plans, and available savings programs

Columbus is home to a wide range of pharmacies that make managing your health more convenient. While it may seem to just “pick any pharmacy”, the reality is that service quality, wait times, and medication availability can vary more than you might expect.

Something as small as long prescription queues or an out-of-stock medication can quickly become frustrating—especially when you are not feeling your best.

Reliable pharmacies do more than dispense medication. They also provide guidance, accessibility, and peace of mind. Many even go a step further by offering services like immunizations, delivery options, and more personalized care.

Whether you are picking up a quick prescription refill or managing ongoing health needs, choosing the right pharmacy in Columbus can help make your routine smoother and less stressful.

White’s Pharmacy gives off that old-school, dependable vibe in a good way. It’s the kind of place that’s been around long enough (over 50 years of delivery service alone) that people already trust it without question.

What makes them stand out isn’t just prescriptions. They carry a surprising mix of items, from Hallmark products to harder-to-find medical supplies.

If you need things like wheelchairs, walkers, or even scooters, they have options to rent or buy. They are perfect for families needing supplies to prepare for home health care, especially for senior citizens.

They will even help work with insurance, which is a good thing, especially for older clients.

They also stock specialty items like professional-strength Biofreeze, which isn’t something you will always find at your usual pharmacy. It really feels like a practical, one-stop shop, especially for families managing ongoing care.

Only downside? Their website isn’t well updated when it comes to their supplies and blogs. It works, but don’t expect updated info or a modern browsing experience.

Pros

  • Over 50 years in service
  • Wide range of medical supplies
  • Offers rentals and insurance support

Cons

  • Outdated website

White’s nearly always has prescriptions ready on time

Top notch!  Friendly, personal, and knowledgeable staff who are a pleasure to work with, and who know their customers and their medications.  White’s nearly always has prescriptions ready on-time and in the rare circumstance of a delay, are transparent about the reasons.

I am rarely in the store more than five minutes, making our time investment comparable or better than corporate pharmacies, where waiting in line is the norm.

Independent pharmacies are an increasingly rare thing, but White’s demonstrates their value. If you find your pharmacy visits a chore, give these folks a try.”

Your source for all hard-to-find items and durable medical goods needs

“I very highly recommend White’s Pharmacy. White’s is an independent pharmacy. I grew up with these types of independent pharmacies. The staff is very knowable, friendly, and mature and goes out of their way to service their clients. White’s is far more than a place to fill your prescription. Whites could be your source for all hard-to-find items and durable medical goods needs, wheelchairs, crutches, and walkers. Buy or rent, and they work with all insurance plans. White’s stocks a wide range of bandages, dressings or almost anything your medical needs require. Pharmacists are a joy, and if they can save you money, they do. The balance of the staff is very knowledgeable and anxious to help you. White’s is a Hallmark store with cards and Christmas Ornaments. Whites also do prescription deliveries. If you are looking for an old-school pharmacy for your medical needs without all the add-ons, give White’s a try.”

Equitas Health Pharmacy feels more like a support system than just a place to pick up meds. Everything is designed to make the process smoother, from automatic refill reminders to having prescriptions delivered straight to your door.

One thing I like is how connected everything is. Their pharmacists actually coordinate with physicians, which makes things like prior authorizations and refills less of a hassle.

Plus, the RxLocal app lets you handle almost everything from your phone, including messaging the pharmacy directly.

Equitas also goes beyond the basics with vaccinations and access to programs that help lower medication costs. It’s especially helpful if you’re juggling multiple prescriptions or managing care for a family.

That said, it’s not always seamless. Some people have experienced delays, like arriving for a refill only to find it hasn’t been processed yet.

Pros

  • Highly convenient digital tools
  • Strong care coordination
  • Home delivery available

Cons

  • Occasional processing delays

These people care and are very in tune with my healthcare needs

I have been a patient at Equitas Health since they opened in 2012, or at least that’s when I started, they actually called me as I had moved back home to Columbus and was looking for a Primary care physician. I started out with Karen Spring, and moved to Tara when Karen left. I currently see Mimi, and I must say, this has been and is the best experience I’ve had with healthcare! These people care and are very in tuned with MY healthcare needs, from my primary care to the pharmacy, I wouldn’t trust my care to ANYONE else! I always say, “they’re stuck with me!” I can always get in touch with someone and leave feeling confident that my healthcare needs have been fully addressed and met! I love this place!”

They have better prices than comparable pharmacies

“Hands down best pharmacy in Columbus! The staff here are always willing to take time to answer your questions or try and find the best prices for your meds. They also have better prices than comparable pharmacies. If you identify as LGBTQ, they have some of the most knowledgeable and affirming staff. They also offer delivery monthly, so you don’t have to pick up your meds. Parking is almost always open, but there is street parking close by if not.”

3. Gifthealth

Gifthealth feels very different from your typical pharmacy. It’s built more like a tech platform than a storefront, which makes the whole experience feel faster and more streamlined from the start.

Everything is designed to cut down the usual waiting time and paperwork that often slows prescriptions down.

The speed is probably its biggest advantage. Prescriptions can be filled in about a day and a half, compared to the 12-day national average. This is a huge difference if you need medication quickly.

Gifthealth also has a 95% dispense rate, which is noticeably higher than the typical 73%. This shows how efficient their system really is.

Behind the scenes, they manage benefit checks, prior authorizations, and enrollment digitally to minimize delays. They also support patient adherence through follow-ups and tracking tools.

However, updating orders can sometimes be frustrating because changes don’t reflect correctly right away.

Pros

  • Very fast processing times
  • Streamlined digital system
  • Strong adherence support

Cons

  • Issues with order modifications

Delivery and packaging are really top-tier

Everything has been great so far no complaints they have answered all of my questions along the way I’ve been with self-pay for 1 month going into month 2 I didn’t know that they only operate through Monday through Friday but when I talked to representative they told me that so that was good to know and delivery and packaging is really top tier for sure very fast delivery which is good when you need your medicine before your next shot day very happy with that : )”

They all have been wonderful

“This review is for the live agents that I have talked to at Gifthealth. They have all been wonderful. Today, it was Breanna who helped me. She stayed on the phone with me while I navigated the system and got my order processed. If it had not been for the live agents, I would have been in despair. Breanna and the other live agents I’ve talked to made all the difference. Talk to a live agent whenever possible. And thank you, Breanna. Your empathy made my day!”

Central Ohio Compounding Pharmacy is more niche, but that’s exactly the point.

Instead of dispensing standard medications, they focus on creating customized prescriptions tailored to each patient’s specific needs. This can make a big difference in more complex cases.

They have been doing this since 1997, so that’s nearly three decades of experience behind what they do.

Their work includes adjusting dosages. Pharmacists here can combine multiple medications into one, or even change the form into creams, gels, or liquids for patients who can’t take pills.

Central Ohio can also remove allergens or unnecessary additives, which is especially helpful for those with sensitivities.

The founder, Tony Buchta, brings over 25 years of experience and has been recognized with the Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award. He’s also served on the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, which adds credibility to the practice.

Of course, that level of customization comes at a cost, making it more expensive than standard pharmacies.

Pros

  • Over 25 years in service
  • Highly personalized medications
  • Experienced leadership
  • Great for specific medical needs

Cons

  • Higher pricing

I was so pleased with the professionalism and courtesy of the staff

I was so pleased with the professionalism and courtesy of the staff at this facility. Jonathan the pharmacist was helpful explaning the details of what was involved with serum tears Arena Pharmacy is one of the few local pharmacies that provide this service it is a compounding pharmacy which provides a service that is sometimes  sent out however the service provided is over $100 less to have the procedure done locally than to have it sent out another advantage is the service is preformed in a few hours versus overnight . Here is one more plus to buying locally. Thank you so much for all the help and information I will certainly be using your services in the future. My punctuation sucks there’s Service did not.”

It was the best interaction with a pharmacist that I have ever had

“Jonathan was very professional and kind. He explained my prescriptions and dosage extremely well. He didn’t rush through like a robot. He asked if we had questions ensuring that my wife and I understood completely. It was the best interaction with a Pharmacist that I have ever had.”

Specialty Rx Pharmacy operates on a completely different scale compared to your usual neighborhood pharmacy.

It’s built specifically for long-term care facilities. So, everything is designed around efficiency and consistency across multiple patients and medications.

They use advanced systems like automated dispensing and packaging, which help reduce errors and keep everything organized—even for complex medication regimens.

Specialty Rx’s Omnicell Express system allows for faster, more reliable medication distribution. This also improves inventory control within facilities.

There’s even 24/7 access to medications through automated dispensing systems, which is especially useful during emergencies.

On top of that, their multi-dose packaging simplifies administration, saving time for healthcare staff and improving patient adherence. In fact, it can reduce nursing administration time significantly while maintaining up to 99.99% accuracy.

Where things can fall short is communication. Some users have reported slow responses or difficulty reaching staff for follow-ups.

Pros

  • Highly efficient automated systems
  • Improves medication accuracy
  • Great for long-term care settings
  • Provides 24/7 access to medications

Cons

  • Slow response times for inquiries

Customer satisfaction is always a priority

Excellent pharmacy with a professional and friendly environment.

The staff works as a team to ensure patients receive safe and accurate medications.

Customer satisfaction is always a priority, and it shows in the quality of service.”

Everyone I talked to was so kind and accommodating

“I had to make a call to them to ask some questions for a resident and everyone I talked to was so kind and accommodating. They took the time to help me and answer my questions, and if the person I was talking to didn’t know the answer they transfered me to someone who did. I even ended up talking to the person in charge and he was so nice and made sure that everything was well and okay before hanging up the phone. Great pharmacy!”
