The wrong gym can stall your progress for months, leaving you with poor form, bad habits, and zero motivation to show up. The right facility does the exact opposite, which is why finding the best MMA gym in Columbus is essential.
Choosing your training spot all comes down to matching your personal ambitions with coaches who actually know how to develop your skills.
To help you decide, I looked into the local spots that pair elite-level instruction with a welcoming vibe for first-timers. Here are my top picks to help you find the perfect fit!
How much does an MMA gym cost in Columbus?
A monthly MMA membership in Columbus typically costs between $80 and $220, with the final rate depending on the gym, its location, and the access tier you choose.
| Facility / Gym Type | Estimated Monthly Cost |
| Specialty/Satellite Gyms | $80 – $125 |
| Peak Human Performance | $129 – $175 |
| Brandon’s Gym | Around $140 (paid in full upfront) |
| Ronin Training Center | $100 – $220 |
1. Ronin Training Center

Website: ronintrainingcenter.com
Address: 1012 W 3rd Ave
Contact: (614) 565-3787 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM; Tuesday and Thursday, 7:00 AM to 8:30 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM; Sunday, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Ronin Training Center stands out because its daily classes are led by active professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competitors, so the learning environment feels authentic.
With this approach, stepping onto the mats to learn self-defense doesn’t feel intimidating. I dropped in for a striking session recently, and the energy in the room pushed me well past my usual conditioning limits.
They also take the stress out of signing up by offering month-to-month memberships with no long-term contracts. That flexibility is a real plus if you aren’t ready to commit for a full year.
Additionally, members get fully unlimited access to instructor-led blocks and open mat time, which makes it easy to build a steady routine.
The one real drawback is the trial policy. New students can’t join advanced-level classes during the initial one-week assessment.
Still, the sheer volume of foundational classes makes it a premier spot for developing fighters.

By far the best gym to be at
Been a part of the MMA program for a bit now and have fought all my MMA fights from this gym. This is by far the best gym to be at. The coaching is second to none from beginner classes to advanced. This place has everything you need. You have the ability to train with and learn from the top professional athletes Ohio has to offer. I’ve had nothing but a positive experience at Ronin.

The instructors are world class
This gym is incredible. I say that because it’s huge, it’s clean, it’s nice and it has tons of varying programs. From judo to BJJ, Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling, you name it they’ve got it here. This is probably the biggest MMA gym in Ohio and in surrounding states. The instructors are world class and by that I mean ranked in the top in the world. With that, they are still humble, courteous, polite and professional.

2. Mad Max’s Academy

Website: madmaxmetzgar.com
Address: 317 Marshall Passage
Contact: (708) 557-0118
Hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM; Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Building real fighting stamina takes more than hitting pads, which is where a properly structured conditioning program comes in.
Mad Max’s Academy runs like a true combat team, managed by active professional fighters who fold periodized strength routines right into your technical practice.
If you’ve been looking into personal trainers in Columbus to level up your fitness, the structured routines here might be exactly what you need.
The coaches also simplify the health side by providing licensed nutrition protocols that sync with smartphone apps to track your daily macros. That digital piece keeps your diet lined up with the demands of combat sports training.
You do need to prepare for a serious time commitment, though. In particular, their team sessions run a rigid, demanding 90-minute block per class. The blend of elite instruction and custom nutrition planning makes the place a real powerhouse, though.

Excellent coaching across all levels
Started the program with zero MMA experience. Max met me where I was at, helped me build my fundamentals, and kept me at a pace where I felt involved but not overwhelmed. Overall excellent coaching across all levels, with attention to detail and solid technique as the focal point, in addition to a supportive and encouraging community. Highly recommend.

An amazing fighter and coach
Worked with Max for a year and he is an amazing fighter and coach who 100% knows everything that it takes to win in life, be a great fighter, and also be the best version of yourself physically and mentally. Would seriously recommend him to anyone wanting to learn MMA or anyone who needs a personal trainer. If you want a coach who walks the walk, this is your guy.

3. Ohio Combat Sports Academy

Website: ohiocombatacademy.com
Address: 6950 Americana Pkwy, Suite F
Contact: (614) 288-0398 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday, 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM; Tuesday and Thursday, 5:45 PM to 8:00 PM; Wednesday, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM; Friday, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM; Saturday, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Training alongside elite practitioners sharpens your technique fast, and that is the draw at Ohio Combat Sports Academy.
Here, they regularly expand the standard curriculum with high-level seminars led by guest instructors like multi-time International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) World Champions.
The head instructor even serves as a Defensive Tactics Consultant for the local Sheriff’s Office, which brings a practical edge to the self-defense work.
From what I’ve seen, this gym leans into character development and teamwork rather than acting like a standard recreational club.
Their lesson planning flows smoothly from physical calisthenics into focused technical drilling, so you build a strong foundation. That kind of structure pays off as you progress.
One hurdle for busy folks, however, is the mandatory in-person introductory meeting required before any trial class. You can’t just drop in on a whim, which slows down your start.
On the upside, that onboarding helps create a customized, respectful environment once you join.

A safe, diverse team
There are multiple families that train here and everyone helps each other get better. There are people like myself that just like burning calories and learning some self defense but there are also members that compete in jiu jitsu and MMA matches. It’s a safe, diverse team with many first responders and school teachers as members and instructors. It does not matter what shape you’re in, what your age is, what your background is, or what your goals are.

Passion that is hard to find
The BJJ black belt instructors, MMA coach, and boxing coaches have a passion for their discipline that is hard to find. They will stay after class for as long as you need to answer questions or perfect that guard or that ground and pound or that slip. The owner actively pays attention to everyone’s progress and observes during live rolling sessions. He knows the status of his students and the work they are putting in. Outstanding school with outstanding people.

4. Immortal Martial Arts Center

Website: immortalmartialartscenter.com
Address: 8938 Cotter St
Contact: (740) 909-3065 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM; Friday, 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM; Saturday, 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM
Testing the waters of combat sports shouldn’t drain your bank account or lock you into an aggressive contract. Thankfully, Immortal Martial Arts Center eases new practitioners onto the mats with a low-risk, multi-class pass priced to keep that first-step anxiety low.
They also run an interesting grappling framework that blends traditional Jiu-Jitsu with wrestling principles, all without uniform grips. I love how this fresh take keeps training varied.
Their approach is also a fantastic physical outlet, especially if you’ve already burned through the usual fitness routines or yoga classes in Columbus.
When I spoke with a friend who recently joined their Olympic Judo program, she raved about the technical instruction for both adults and kids.
I just found the strict hygiene rules somewhat inconvenient because they require you to change into footwear the moment you step off the mats. It keeps the facility spotless, but constantly slipping shoes on and off between water breaks gets a little annoying.

5. Brandon’s Gym

Website: brandonsgym.com
Address: 792 Bethel Rd
Contact: (614) 203-5568
Hours: Monday and Wednesday, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM; Tuesday, 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM; Thursday, 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM; Friday, 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM; Saturday, 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Finding an instructor who has truly mastered different fighting styles is rare in combat sports, which is why Brandon’s Gym is a stand-out.
This place delivers elite knowledge from a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt paired with striking techniques from a seasoned kickboxer. The vibe skips the marketing gimmicks and stays focused on direct, results-oriented training.
To develop practical strength and sharp technique, they run a fully integrated battle-tested system with a focus on stamina.
Students also benefit from coaching grounded in marathon-level discipline, which builds the kind of endurance that holds up during intense exchanges.
The big barrier is the financial setup for long-term programs, which requires a premium upfront payment of over $1,500, paid in full. If you can handle that initial investment, the caliber of instruction and the no-nonsense atmosphere are tough to beat.
