In college, I was an excellent student, but it wasn’t my strongest area. No matter how hard I try, it takes a lot of effort just to get by. But as someone academically competitive like me, I refused to give up.
I thought, maybe there’s a better way. Although I was hesitant, I enrolled in a math tutoring program in Columbus.
Let me tell you, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I didn’t just stop struggling; I now enjoy math because I finally understand how it works.
That experience taught me how amazing the right tutor can be. That’s exactly why I’m putting this list together, so I can also help people gain confidence in this dreaded subject.
How much do math tutoring services cost in Columbus?
Math tutoring services in Columbus typically cost between $25 to $80 per hour. Just note that the final cost depends on the format, the tutor’s experience, and package inclusions.
1. Meryl’s Magic Math Tutoring

Phone: +13304950727
Business Hours:
- Monday to Thursday, 1–9 PM
- Friday, 1–5 PM
Meryl’s Magic Math Tutoring started in 2017 and was founded by Meryl Weaver, who has had prior experience as a teacher.
After witnessing how students struggle with calculus due to large class sizes and insufficient individual attention, she created a tutoring center where concepts are explained simply and a plan is tailored to each student’s skill level.
She and her team are all certified teachers and can support a wide range of math courses, from elementary through college.
Their tutoring services are available both online and in-person. While they don’t have their own learning center, they typically schedule in-person sessions at public libraries in Ohio.
But before anything else, you will have to go through a free 15-minute consultation to see if it’s a good fit.
A 60-minute session starts at $90; online tutoring is $75. It’s a little more expensive than the average, but considering that both students and parents speak so highly of them, the value seems worth it.
She truly works to see her students succeed
“Meryl is a phenomenal tutor—extremely patient, knowledgeable, and supportive—she truly works to see her students succeed. Working weekly with Meryl helped clarify all the material I learned in class, and I would not have been as confident as I was going into the Calc BC exam without her help.”

We are so grateful for the incredible support
We are so grateful for the incredible support our son received from Meryl as his AP Calculus BC tutor. Just the prior year, his math teacher was advising him to take AB instead of BC, asserting that his precalculus grades were not high enough for him to succeed in BC. He really wanted to take BC, but we were uncertain about how his grades would turn out. We decided to invest in Meryl’s tutoring, which helped him to far exceed expectations. Not only did he thrive in the class, he earned solid As throughout the year and scored a 5 on the AP exam. What stood out the most was how much he actually enjoyed working with Meryl. Her approach was tailored perfectly to his way of learning. The accountability and consistency that came with once-a-week lessons allowed him to get the scores we knew he could. We can’t recommend her highly enough!

2. Kumon

Address: 8112 E Broad St, Reynoldsburg
Phone: +16148925444
Business hours:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 10 AM–7:30 PM
- Wednesday, 10 AM–4 PM
Kumon operates in many locations across Columbus and is part of a global learning franchise focused on building strong skills in math and reading.
The center offers a wide range of levels, from basic topics like counting to advanced topics such as algebra and precalculus.
We like that this isn’t like your traditional tutoring sessions. Instead, Kumon uses a system in which students complete assignments at home and attend the center a few times per week to check progress and receive new materials.
In a sense, it’s more of a self-learning curriculum where every concept is broken down into smaller portions, and they can only move on to the next part if they can complete their current worksheet.
This approach is offered through a monthly subscription ranging from $150 to $300, which we find reasonable given the quality of teaching.
Many families appreciate the discipline this program builds in students, noting that their children now have greater math stamina and patience.
But not everyone is happy with the system. We have also heard from a few parents that their children get stuck on the same material for an extended period, which can lead to boredom or loss of motivation.
I am fully satisfied and positive regarding Kumon
“It is my pleasure to admit my children on kumon center. This is one of the great places for the children of their improvement. Being parents our wealth is our children. Investment on our children is our happiness on positive attitudes. I am fully satisfied and positive regarding to Kumon Learning Center. Before 6 months my daughter was very poor in maths I have admitted her in this tuition center. Now she has grade “A” on her maths and also she is doing maths on her head now. If you need improvement of your children do not refuse to admit on kumon center. We need to invest always in positive attitude… that is always kumon. Thank you all the teachers here for your hard work to implement of my children.”

The instructor engages with families to discuss the child’s progress
“My daughter has been a student in Reynoldsburg Kumon for Math and Reading since its opening; I have seen how she changed immensely in reading and writing. In addition, I have observed the instructor engage with families to discuss the child’s progress or maybe other issues. SO, I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THE CENTER to any one who want there child to grasp the path of success.”

3. Mathnasium

Address: 2479 Hilliard Rome Rd, Hilliard
Phone: +16149715571
Business Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 12–7 PM
Mathnasium is a well-recognized math center that has received numerous awards and recognitions over the years, including consistent rankings as a top tutoring franchise by Forbes and Entrepreneur.
They use their own program, the Mathnasium Method. It’s a personalized approach that uses learning materials and exercises that match the student’s pace and skill level.
The center serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade and categorizes its plans into three types: “Catch Up,” “Keep Up,” and “Get Ahead.” Basically, they will meet you wherever you are in math.
We love that their services are offered through a monthly membership that ranges from $250 to $400, depending on how often you attend.
There’s a virtual option as well, in case you can’t attend the face-to-face sessions.
Their method appears to be effective, with many parents reporting greater confidence and improved math grades. In fact, the majority of their centers report that up to 90% of enrolled students improved their classroom performance after consistent participation.
However, the experience varies by location. Some centers are praised for excellent instructors, while others are described as having dismissive teachers who don’t support students.
This center excels at building strong math foundations
“We’ve had a wonderful experience with Mathnasium, owned by Adam. This center excels at building strong math foundations and boosting student confidence. Adam’s exceptional leadership stands out—he knows students by name, builds genuine connections, and creates a positive, motivating environment. We highly recommend this Mathnasium to families seeking a supportive, expertly run program. Thank you, Adam and team!”

We absolutely love Adam and all of the tutors at Mathnasium
“We absolutely love Adam and all of the tutors at Mathnasium of Hilliard! My son started with absolutely no math skills and no desire to learn. He was very discouraged. Mathnasium has helped him so much that he actually says that what he is learning in school now is easy. Mathnasium has given him the encouragement he needed to help him succeed.”

4. BWS Education Consulting

Address: 2296 Satterbury Ct, Dublin
Phone: +16143534725
Business Hours: Monday to Sunday, 9 AM–9 PM
BWS is a tutoring center founded by Brian Stewart, who authored the books on test preparation for Barron’s. Note that these are the study guides used worldwide for college entrance exams.
While they are well known for SAT/ACT preparation, their math-specific division is equally competitive, serving students from elementary through college.
Their classes are known to be interactive and personalized, with tutors working one-on-one with students to strengthen their weaknesses. This is especially helpful in math, considering that it’s where most students struggle.
For their class formats, they offer both in-person and virtual learning. And what’s even more appealing is that when you opt for the face-to-face classes, the session will either take place in a public library or a coffee shop.
The tutors at BWS are all trained and have prior teaching experience. Their rates start at $90 per hour, which is slightly higher than the standard but fair given the expertise of their associates.
If you would prefer a class with Brian himself, the rate is $200 per hour.
Brian is incredible
“Brian is incredible. He was able to identify our son‘s weaknesses and work with him to make them strengths. Doing so got him to a perfect score on the ACT. Thanks for all your work! Highly, highly recommend.”
– Matt McClimon, Google Review

5. Frog Tutoring

Address: 100 E Campus View Blvd #250
Phone: +16143446485
Business Hours:
- Monday to Wednesday, 7 AM–10 PM
- Thursday, Open 24 hours
What makes Frog Tutoring stand out is that they don’t just assign you to a tutor who’s available at the moment.
Instead, they will intentionally pair you with mentors from nearby universities that can actually match your tutoring needs. (There’s a chance that it might be someone in the same class as you, though!)
This makes their range one of the broadest in the city, spanning Pre-K through graduate-level courses. And what’s great about it is that the learning plans are based on what topic you are currently tackling at school to make sure you can keep up.
With this factor taken into account, many students reported higher math course scores, including jumps from D to B.
Their sessions can be taken online or in person. The tutor usually comes to your home, but meeting at a library is also an option.
Their hourly rates range from $37 to $65, which is considered affordable. On top of that, they don’t lock you in long-term contracts. You can either choose from their package options or pay as you go.
However, because some tutors are also students, scheduling can be challenging, especially during finals week or university breaks.
I’ve never felt more confident in math
“Shane, he’s incredible at explaining each concept. He goes step by step and never rushes through. My grades have gone up since starting. He’s patient and supportive through every lesson. I’ve never felt more confident in math.”
– Aline Jean Sardan, Google Review
