The 5 Best Hernia Surgery Facilities in Columbus That Will Get You Back in Action in No Time

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Quality of Service: We chose hernia surgery facilities known for their licensed surgeons, high care standards, and consistent outcomes to ensure excellent recovery rates.

Communication: We preferred approachable and highly responsive staff for bookings, consultations, updates, and other patient concerns.

Facilities and Equipment: We selected facilities with clean, modern operating rooms, advanced surgical suites, and a culture of continuous innovation for a seamless experience.

Accessibility: We reviewed facilities located centrally, as well as those with easy scheduling, short wait times, and ample parking.

Last year, while rehearsing in the theater, I noticed my friend often wincing during practice. When I asked about it, he brushed it off as a minor muscle strain.

Over time, the discomfort worsened, especially when he lifted a moderately heavy prop. That movement triggered a sharp pain, and he realized it might be more serious than he thought. It turned out he was dealing with a hernia, but had been hesitant to admit it.

We stayed calm and talked about next steps. I offered to help him find reliable medical care and, after some research, compiled a list of the top hernia surgery facilities in Columbus. If you’re facing a similar situation, these are the options worth considering.

How much do hernia surgeries cost in Columbus?

Hernia surgeries in Columbus typically cost between $4,000 and $6,000 for open hernia repair. However, the total cost depends on the procedure type, facility setting (outpatient or hospital), surgeon experience, insurance negotiations, and extra care options.

Taylor Station Surgical Center has been specializing in outpatient surgeries, such as hernia repairs, since 2011. The facility is affiliated with Mount Carmel Health System, which pushes them to prioritize high comfort and satisfaction.

For us, they’re an efficient alternative to busy hospitals with more patients. This is especially true for those with planned procedures that don’t require overnight stays.

That setup works for many. People we spoke with praised the calm environment here, especially the patience and attentiveness they received. Getting timely updates, from phone registration to post-operation check, also earned their trust.

Another thing praising is their modern spaces and state-of-the-art technology, along with good parking for a smooth visit.

Just remember that if you don’t have insurance, you’ll still be required to pay for services on the day of surgery. Those with documented financial need may still get special consideration.

If you’re ever confused about medical billing and insurance coverage, the online document provided on their website is very helpful.

However, there were times when the staff mixed up the schedules. This led to many appointments being rescheduled, causing delays and cancellations.

Pros

  • Affiliated with Mount Carmel Health System
  • Calm, low-stress environment
  • Timely updates from registration to post-operation
  • Modern spaces and updated technology
  • Good parking availability
  • Handy online guide for billing and insurance

Cons

  • Reports of scheduling mix-ups and delays

Never been to a place with such caring staff

All experiences were wonderful and deserve five stars

“I just saw Dr Mudhaven yesterday for a colonoscopy.  But I also saw Dr Lindsey ten an fifteen years ago. I also had a hernia repair by Dr Thomas Vara years ago.  All experiences were wonderful and five stars.  The surgical center even had me come in early yesterday and took me right back. Dr Mudhaven came in and answered all my questions,  as did the anesthesiologist. Thank you to the entire team!”

Knightsbridge Surgery Center’s partnership with OhioHealth makes it easy for them to offer top-notch outpatient hernia surgery in Columbus. This physician-owned facility has been in the industry since 2001, so it’s no wonder patients rave to us about the efficient care they receive.

Over time, that experience has really added up. The facility has at least 65 doctors across 4 operating rooms, enabling the teams to offer a more personalized approach.

We bet most visits would be seamless, as the facility has a non-discrimination policy and provides language and accessibility services for patients with disabilities or limited English proficiency.

Patients are also typically pre-registered before their appointment. Their nurses also ease people’s fears through gentle conversations and anticipate needs, like anti-nausea meds, on time.

It also helps that there is free Wi-Fi for patients and visitors, as well as complimentary parking, which removes other hurdles to convenience.

The only drawback for us is the reports, where some patients faced last-minute cancellations from staff. We feel this is a rare occurrence, which likely stemmed from miscommunication.

Pros

  • Partners with OhioHealth
  • Long track record of 25+ years
  • Efficient outpatient care
  • Large team of doctors
  • Highly Attentive nurses
  • Inclusive facility with language help
  • Free Wi-Fi and parking

Cons

  • Reports of last-minute cancellation

Very painful after surgery, but they made the stay an easy event

“The front office person was very nice and efficient for my check in today. The nurses were a 5 star group of professionals. They took care of me, explained all that was happening in the process, promised to give me good care (actually it was excellent). I am terrible remembering names but I remember one name, Rachel, and all the ones that worked with her were the best. My operation was an incisional hernia. Very painful after surgery but they made the stay an easy event. My Doctor (Giammar) was great too. He explained my procedure and promised me it would be a painful recovery for a few days. I appreciate the honesty. Love to all of you but I hope to see you under different circumstsnces.”

Made sure I was comfortable both before and after the procedure

“I had an excellent experience at Knightsbridge Surgery Center for a hernia repair. The nurses went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable both before and after the procedure. I would definitely use this center again should I need surgery in the future.”

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center delivers expert hernia repair services as part of a top-tier university medical system. Their team also specializes in advanced colorectal and general procedures.

Their surgery department was formalized in 1914, and they have come a long way since. They use research-backed techniques that let them handle complex cases, which other smaller facilities avoid.

Plus, you can easily schedule appointments through MyChart, Ohio State’s patient portal. With this, you can view real-time slots, reschedule, and cancel from your phone or computer—ideal for busy locals.

They back this efficiency with great amenities. Thanks to their robotic da Vinci systems and modern operating rooms, visitors usually feel at ease.

In addition, the space’s recent expansions ensure they continue to develop new and enhanced recovery protocols to drive long-term outcomes.

But though they are knowledgeable, those we interviewed value the staff’s caring attitude more. Some experiences shared with us highlight how patient the nurses are in answering questions and how clearly the surgeons explain risks.

Of course, their academic-driven setup means higher costs. As for the atmosphere, the facility might feel more clinical than cozy compared to other surgery centers.

  • Part of a top university medical system
  • Over 30 years of experience
  • Experienced in complex hernia cases
  • Easy scheduling via the MyChart patient portal
  • Robotic da Vinci systems and modern ORs

Cons

Absolutely amazing and patient with my brother

“I help take care of my older brother who is developmentally delayed and he needed surgery for a hiatal hernia. Dr Perry was absolutely amazing with him! He explained things in way he could fully understand it and was so patient with him and answered all of his questions. My brother would smile so big every time he saw him. I would recommend him to anyone! Thank you so much for taking such good care of my brother Dr Perry!”

Very courteous and puts you at ease immediately

“Very courteous. Puts you at ease immediately. You can talk very openly without feeling embarrassed or uncomfortable. Gives you a very good overview of what your surgery would entail and gives you the options and opportunity to make your decision on your own.”

If you prefer a full-service hospital setting, Riverside Surgical Associates offers reliable hernia surgery with board-certified general surgeons supported by nurse practitioners.

The team mainly focuses on advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques. But what sets them apart for us is that they combine outpatient experience with hospital backup to assist patients needing urgent escalation.

They are also associated with OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, gaining them access to a top-ranked facility with over 1,000 beds with full resources for hernia surgeries.

Beyond the facilities, some individuals mentioned that the staff shines in their approachability and thoroughness.

On-call surgeons are available for immediate surgical interventions when needed. They don’t rush the patients either, ensuring the latter understand their condition well.

That kind of care seems easy to reach too. Their central location with valet and parking makes them highly accessible, especially for emergencies.

Still, their hospital environment leads to larger crowds, which occasionally increase wait times.

  • Board-certified surgeons with nurse practitioner support
  • Associated with OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital
  • Advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques
  • Approachable and thorough staff
  • Available on-call surgeons for urgent cases

Cons

He was kind, thorough, and very calming

“I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Toscano. I was suffering from a pretty severe case of diastasis recti & had all but lost hope at having it fixed. I’d had failed physical therapy, an OB/GYN that down played it, & a consult from another general surgeon that told me she could do the repair, but that I’d have to fully pay out of pocket, as I was not herniated & it would be considered “cosmetic.” You could physically see & feel my bowels my case was so severe so I wasn’t giving up. I remembered previous doctors I’d worked for referring to Dr. Toscano all the time, so I requested a referral specifically for him. He took one look at me, in clear sympathy, the day of my consult, told me I had a hernia, along with the severe DR, & said he could do it no problem, & insurance would cover it. We went over all restrictions, info, etc & I had the surgery scheduled before leaving the office. The day of the procedure he was kind, thorough, & very calming. I’ve seen him for 2 follow-ups, one of which was a reassurance to me after being worried I’d caused damage after the stomach bug. Each time he was very considerate & encouraging that I return should I ever want/need to. My results are AMAZING. I have no pain (I’m only 2 months out), my swelling is little-to-none, & my scar looks fantastic, given how large it was starting out. I can finally wear my clothes comfortably & play with my children/live life without discomfort. I’d send anyone I love to Dr. Toscano, he’s one of the good ones. His office staff/nurses are always friendly as well. :)”

Very professional in all aspects

“I had a great experience at Riverside Surgical Associates. Dr. Shoemaker operated on all three of my hernias. Two weeks later I feel like new. He was very professional in all aspects. I would recommend him to anyone in need of surgery. Also, the staff at Riverside was great. I could not have had a better experience. I was very pleased with my results.”

Unlike some hernia surgery centers in Columbus, being an independent surgery group allows Central Ohio Surgical Associates to focus on quick scheduling and broad insurance acceptance.

More specifically, they provide same-day and next-day services for non-emergency hernias. We think this is a top reason why they have many patrons keep them a go-to option.

The strong team also includes 10 general surgeons. Notable names like Dr. Marcus Miller and Dr. Adam Zochowski bring decades of experience in hernia and complex cases.

Some people also raved about how fast their consultation booking went. They noted that the doctors answered all worries upfront, which prevented delays.

Their facilities support this excellent care. For one, their operating rooms were clean and equipped with updated technology to ensure comfortable recoveries. We heard it was easy to park in the vicinity as well.

We are still disappointed about one thing, though. There was a complaint about last-minute changes to operating room availability, which can cause significant frustration for patients.

Pros

  • Independent surgery group
  • Team of 10 board-certified general surgeons
  • Quick scheduling
  • Offers same-day and next-day services
  • Easy parking

Cons

  • Reports of last-minute changes to operating room availability

Made sure I was doing great

“Just had major surgery done by Dr Aguila recently. Hospital staff raved about this surgeon. Nurses are very impressed with him. I know because we asked around before my surgery. After my surgery i have to say this surgeon knows his stuff very well and he made sure i was doing great during my hospital stay. If you need general surgery done Dr Aguila is the guy! You’re doing yourself a disservice if you dont atleast consult with this guy.”

Very understanding, empathetic, and knowledgeable

“Central Ohio Surgical Associates is an incredible healthcare facility. I was recommended to Dr. Jeffrey Turner, by my gastroenterologist, Dr. Sklaw. It was very easy to make a quick appointment! All of the stuff were very friendly at the East office. I was very impressed with Dr Turner, he is very understanding, empathetic and knowledgeable. He explained everything in a way I could understand and we scheduled the procedure in no time. The  procedure was perfect! Met with Dr Turner yesterday and all my questions were answered. I am very confident in Dr T and if I will ever need another surgery will definitely be calling his office! Thanks COSA and Dr Turner!”
