Maybe because over the years, I’ve dealt with enough stressful orders that left me pissed and panicking. Once you experience that, it kinda changes the way you think about something as simple as a dessert.
And that’s exactly why I’ve become a lot more careful about where I get my cake delivery services in Columbus. I only have a few of them in my list, but at least I know these bakeries won’t let me down.

1. Resch’s Bakery

If there’s one bakery that keeps popping up in conversations about cakes and old-school desserts, it’s Resch’s Bakery. This one’s been around since 1912, and its treats are the kind that locals say they grew up with.
For years, they’re like the default bakery for birthdays, weddings, and retirement parties. They offer everything from sheet cakes to highly customized/themed ones.
However, when it comes to birthday or specialty cakes, delivery is not often offered to maintain product quality. They occasionally accommodate it, depending on the customer’s request.
They do deliver wedding cakes, though, with free delivery for the first 15 miles. Anything beyond that will be charged $1.25 per mile.
The cost often depends on the customization, size, and flavors, so they don’t publish any price listing online. But their prices are considered reasonable by regular customers.
Besides cakes, their donuts are practically a legendary treat around Columbus (not exaggerating!). Many people I know would come in for the cakes and leave with a box of apple fritters or cream-filled donuts.

Fate Cakes began as a home bakery and has since grown into a popular dessert brand known for its themed treats for a variety of events. It offers a range of cake options, including fully custom cakes, cake pops, and cupcakes.
For delivery, they primarily operate through DoorDash. Same-day and next-day delivery options are also available, depending on schedule and demand. However, custom cakes require at least two weeks’ advance notice when placing an order.
Pricing starts at around $30 for a single-tiered 4” cake, and scales reasonably according to the size, tier, and design. These rates are quite affordable, and many customers also note that the cakes are both delicious and beautifully designed.

If you’re looking for a bakery that can achieve highly detailed custom cakes for your special events, Sugar Rush is worth considering. They’re known to pull off really creative designs that turn your cake into the centerpiece of the celebration.
Aside from cakes, you’ll also get cookies, cupcakes, and indulgent milkshakes from their menu.
For deliveries, customers can arrange them via DoorDash and Grubhub. Meanwhile, they can do direct deliveries for larger orders, with fees starting at $35.
If you’d prefer a faster turnaround, they also have pre-designed themed cakes, such as Buckeye and Strawberry Cheesecake Crunch. These range from $50 to $85, which serves as a more budget-friendly option.
Pricing varies by custom size and design, but many regulars noted great value for the quality and portions.
The only concern from a few customers is that they often get the design or size wrong, so attentiveness may need some improvement.

I ended up looking up on the app to see what else was around and Sugar Rush popped up. The selection of treats was beautiful and there were so many options. I didn’t know where to start, so I got a few different things! Everything was delicious, starting with the cupcakes – sweet, fresh, and covered in icing, which is my favorite part. I also tried the Buckeye Bar, which is a fudge and that was absolutely delicious. I had to hide it from myself so as not to eat it all in one setting. If you’re watching your figure or need a “healthier” version, Pattycake Bakery might be the best option. The bakery is fully vegan—but interestingly, many non-vegans also like this place, noting that you can’t even tell unless someone points it out.
They don’t shy away when it comes to the flavors. They have various options ranging from classic chocolate to unique options like cardamom rosewater, chai, ube, and more.
Considering their specialty, pricing remains fair and reasonable. Smaller cakes start at around $20, while larger custom cakes vary, depending on size and design modifications.
They also offer ready-to-go cakes for quicker purchases, while custom cakes typically require booking at least a week in advance.
The main thing to consider here, however, is the texture. While some customers absolutely love the richer taste, Pattycake’s cakes have a denser crumb, which can be heavier than the traditional ones.

If you’re after something that looks sophisticated and European-inspired, Pistacia Vera is considered one of the best in Columbus. This bakery is especially known for its French-style pastries, elegant cakes, and macarons.
Their desserts look delicate and minimalist, but still detailed enough for that premium aesthetic. This makes them a favorite for weddings, upscale celebrations, and gift services.
While this means they don’t offer highly intricate custom cakes, it does allow for a faster turnaround. You can order online at least one day in advance through their website and have it delivered on your preferred schedule.
Pricing-wise, of course, it reflects the bakery’s upscale brand. They’re definitely not the cheapest option, but many regulars appear to feel that the presentation, quality, and taste justify the price point.

“Wow. For real wow. Best coffee, best cake, best everything. What ever they sold it will be great. Since I tried the first time until today I go there weekly. I live in Dublin which is about 25 minutes away. If I live close to it I would go there every day. The stuff are awesome. Very kind and always clean and smalls perfect.
